151. Stay fit, and Have Fun

May 31

I’m walking, and running a little bit. I think I deserve a treat right? Last night I bought two bags of chips, Sour Cream and Onion, and Sour Cream and Bacon. The Bacon chips are my weakness, I can sit down and eat an entire bag in one sitting, it’s really bad. When we were playing poker we opened the Onion chips, so I only ate a handful of them, so that was okay. Today I had a bagel, a brownie, two hamburgers, a small caesar salad, and a handful of chips. Well, two, but I justified that because I haven’t had any pop to drink in the last few days. It feels good to be physically active again. Only problem is my knees aren’t liking my new found initiative for activity. It’s better than skiing or soccer though… I miss soccer. I miss skiing too, but it’s not winter, so I can’t go skiing. I guess all I can do is wish and walk. And try running. I’m getting to the point that my knees and back start to hurt enough to make me stop running before my lungs give out. That’s a good feeling. Also going down about 4lbs in the last week, that’s a good feeling. Let’s just wait until that transforms into inches lost.

150. Poker Night with the Boys

May 30

We were playing poker tonight, with actual buy ins, so it was a little more of an actual game than the usual. I had three coolers, I was feeling it a fair bit, but I still did rather well. It came down to myself and one of the guys. I hadn’t been short stack more than once all night, and I was probably only overtaken once or twice, but only for a couple hands. I was doing really well. Then it came down to a really nice hand. I thought I was good to go, but then the other guy pulled out quad Kings on the River. I was ticked. It all went downhill after that. I still came in second though, so I wasn’t out any money. Four hours of entertainment with only the possibility of loosing $20, not bad if I do say so myself.

Now I have to go to bed because I tend to get all down on myself when I drink and then sober up before going to bed. Right now I’m re-thinking just about everything in my life and it’s starting to scare me. I want to go to Ottawa, but I want to stay here too. It’s a bad mental place to be in when you just can’t make up your damned mind.

149. Because I don’t have enough hobbies

May 29

I’m a knitter, but I’m also a sewer. I’ve made a couple dresses and shirts and things from patterns, but one of the things that I really like to do it make things from scratch with no pattern but an idea in my head. Today, that came out as a case for my camera. It’s not done yet due to mom and I going out for supper, groceries, visiting Nanny and Grampy, and then watching “Walk the Line”. I always forget just how much I love the classic singers. Johnny Cash was great, and I can’t believe it was 6 years ago that he died. Seems like just yesterday.

That’s it for tonight, going out with Mom and Nanny for a girls day of shopping tomorrow. And I’m flipping exhausted. I didn’t get any work done on the podcast today. I need a desk to set up my stuff on so that I am more likely to work on it. All things to note for when I get my own place.

148. Work, then better work.

May 28

My day job is in a Consulting Engineering firm. My night job is as a Producer/editor/musical director of a knitting podcast that is only about 15 or 20% knitting content, which reaches about 30,000 people with every episode. One I get paid fairly well and it goes into my bank account. The other gets me yarn and other fun hand made stuff. Which one do you think I like more? The one that tries to suck my creative soul out through my eye sockets, or the one that leaves me with a split side from laughing so much?

How can I turn my night job into a full day job? Oh right, go to University, study hard, work in my labs even harder, and enjoy every minute of it. It’s been over a year since I graduated and I have only gotten the occasional paying gig with my education. Time to leave the province that is (currently, but hopefully not for long) run by a PC close minded-trampoline jumping-seemingly nice guy-with bad ideas of governing Premier, and go to a Liberal province.

Hello Ontario, I’m Gwen. I’m going to be your new best friend.

147. Mine in Guiding

May 27

I know that a fair number of my blog posts are about Guiding, but it’s one of the things in my life that I value very highly. Tonight was our District Advancement, where the girls in their last year of one level get their pins and move up to the next level. I don’t have any pictures from tonight, not because I didn’t have my camera, but because I was the ranking leader with my Brownie group, so I had to do the pinning and all that jazz. I got a Bronze Unit Guider award tonight, I also got a card and a little gift from the leaders seeing as I' wont be back next year. I’m hoping to find a group to work with in Ottawa, especially since it will be 100 years in 2010! I’m going to miss my district, being with mostly the same people for 15 years, it will be hard to part with them. My Brown Owl, and my guiders from when I was a younger girl member are still leaders with the District, and they were there tonight. MY Brown Owl made a comment that she had been my leader, and I asked her how long ago it was (with a sarcastic tone), to which she replied “Oh god, I feel old now.”

146. Someone stole May.

May 26

Who did it? I know you’re out there. Whoever you are, I just want May back. My life turned upside down the second last day in April, and now May has just shot by. So much stuff went on, and there’s still so much to do. The next four weeks are probably going to fly by though, that’s just my luck. I never have enough time when I’ve got lots to do, and I have too much time when there is nothing that needs to be done. String theory and Relativity. They don’t make sense.

145. La-la-la-laundry

May 25

I like laundry. I really do. The fresh clothing, the nice smell, the having of clean clothing to wear and not look like a slob. It’s good. I just hate folding. I’ve found ways to fold t-shirts so that they are the quickest to fold but leave the least wrinkles, and I don’t fold unmentionables, they just get stuffed into the drawer. But I (oddly) do like to match up socks. I’m weird like that I guess.

144. Voila, socks.

May 24

Okay, so they’re not 100% done yet, but still a very speedy knit. I’m up to the leg on both socks, and I think I’ll deviate from the pattern a little bit. I don’t like long socks, 2 or 3 inches is really all that I like, so I’ll change the leg and just go right to the cuff. I don’t have an issue with that seeing as the leg section is just a basic arched rib pattern. I’ll get to work on that once I finish this post.

I have magic at finding walking routes that are totally different, and yet the same length. I took a new route again today, but it’s the same distance as the route I did yesterday. It felt much longer, but I also didn’t get bored. I’m not sure if that was because it was new or because it was a big loop and didn’t cross very close to itself like the last one did. I think, with a couple tweaks, I can bring it up over 3k, and make it a little more interesting. I also think that it’ll be my standard route for a while now. I feel good with all this cardio, I want to keep it up. I can’t quit anything else right now.

143. Too Young

May 23

Sorry I’m late, my folks just got in from Florida.

I started my photos tonight trying to get a picture of how messed up my right foot is. Let’s just say that it’s not a pretty picture so I’ll put it at the end, stay tuned. Early in 2005 I was at the ski hill warming up for a day of races with the ski team. Early in the morning I got clipped by someone, and I fell hard. It was enough to make a couple of the guys on the team walk about half way up the hill to collect most of my gear. I didn’t feel any pain that day, just a bit of bruising on my ribcage and opposite hip where I bent my pole by rolling onto it. Like I said, it was a bad fall.

I woke up two days later barely able to move for the pain that was coursing through my entire body but emanating from my lower back. After two trips to two different ERs (one of which told me it was a muscle spasm in my leg, the other convinced me to go home so I didn’t get sick with all the flu patients in there) I went to my family doctor who diagnosed a pinched nerve in my lower back. It was a fairly substantial injury, so it had taken a couple days for the swelling to set in and actually cause problems.

After two months of physio (and a week ski trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire) I was on the mend, but would have permanent damage that I would have to contend with for the rest of my life. There is a spot on my thigh that has no feeling on the skin. I can get a pin prick and not feel it, but I can get kicked and really feel it. It’s a very odd feeling. It’s also weird when the feeling comes back slightly. Because of years of skiing, soccer and various other injuries I already had bad knees, add on the lack of arches and abundance of bunions my feet are horrible which throws everything off anyways. I currently have below average reflexes in my right knee, and no reflexes in my ankle. My left leg is fine. It kind of pisses me off.

I also have some weird tendon/nerve issues with my right foot. Every once in a while, with no rhyme or reason my little toe will decide that it doesn’t like the other ones, so it will stick out to the side. It hurts like hell. Like a charlie horse, but worse. It eventually (after 15 or 20 seconds usually) relaxes, but pulsates from side to side. It’s odd, and kind of creepy. Especially when it wakes me up from a deep sleep. When I try to curl my toes, my left foot is fine, but I can’t curl my right very far at all. it doesn’t hurt, it’s just physically impossible. Yay, permanent damage.

messed up footI wasn’t kidding. That is as far as I can curl the toes on my right foot, versus my left foot.

Take it from me kids, nerve damage is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. Ever.

142. Smoooooth

May 22

It was another very warm day today. So warm that I didn’t wear pants. I wore capris. It was also a very good and productive day for me. I got up around 10:30, went for a walk (I’m back on my cardio routine), came home, did half an hour of pilates, showered, went to the mall (it took two attempts to get a bus seeing as the bus at noon didn’t show up), bought flips flops, undies, returned a pair of pants and bought a tank top. I also stopped at the grocery store and picked up fruit. A lot of fruit. Strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, and bananas. Bonus: they were all on sale. I also got ice cream and juice. I came home and made a smoothie. It was with only strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, milk, and ice cream. I poured a glass, grabbed a straw (which stood up straight), came upstairs and by the time I got to my room, the smoothie had separated. Fruit juices on the bottom with all the dairy on top. IT made me laugh. Only problem was that it was bitter as all get-out. I went and added a banana (I didn’t add one at first because they weren’t the ripest), and a little bit of sugar. This time it was good. I poured a glass and then the leftovers into a container which went into the freezer. I’m really quite excited for my smoothie ice cream. Maybe I’ll make a fruit crisp tomorrow for when my folks get home.

141. Signs of Summer

May 21

It was nearly 30 degrees here in Halifax today. It was 4 degrees in Saint John’s, Newfoundland. I was only able to run across the street at work today to grab lunch, but because I had to leave early, it meant I had to work through lunch to still get my hours in. I would have loved to have sat outside, maybe on a patio, with a cold drink and a burger. Instead I sat in my cubicle, working, with a can of Cola, and a bacon cheeseburger with gravy fries. It was good, but I would have loved to have seen more of the sun.

I have come to a standstill with the Kiila socks. Not because I don’t want to work on them, but because or a fact I forgot to mention. It’s a mystery sock, so you only get a little bit of work each week. I’m thinking I might start on the other end of the yarn to begin the second sock. It would sure stop Second Sock Syndrome. Kiila (3) I added a little bit to the pattern by making the heel a slip stitch heel instead of a plain stockinette heel. I even added to that by changing up which stitches were slipped. I love them so far. The BFL yarn is so soft, I’m hoping that it’ll stand up well. I’ve got a skein of Merino/Nylon (75/25 I think) that fuzzes something horrible. I’m talking H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. I take off my socks at the end of the day and I have half a sheep between my toes. But it seems that there is no wear on the socks. I don’t understand, but they’re bright and I love them too. I love all my handknit socks.

140. Raise a Glass

May 20

First off, last dinner with the mister who is going to Ottawa for his job was tonight. It was good. He will be missed, but life goes on. Have fun Adam!

We stopped by the NSLC on the way back to his (partially unfurnished due to moving) place. While I was waiting for him to pay for his beer, I stood near the door. There was a table with some hats, t-shirts, a few glasses and some license plates. After a little bit of investigation I realized that they were all for sale, cheap. I’m talking $3 for hats or t-shirts, and (get this) One Dollar for the beer glasses. One Dollar. The Mister was going to get 4 glasses, but didn’t have any cash, so I bought 5, and gave him 4. I’m only one person, I don’t need many glasses. It’s such a thick glass, with a heavy bottom. I love it.

What’s better than beer in a beer glass? Anything.

139. An Abundance of Change

May 19

I changed wallets this evening because the bag that I use (my Namaste Messenger) has two large pockets on the front, one I use for my wallet and the other I use for my notebooks. I have a nice wallet that I spent a pretty penny on a couple years ago that is a half fold. It’s black with really bright flowers on it, I really do like it. Except it gets lost in that big pocket on the front of my bag. I also have a nice bill fold that I got from the Burton outlet down in the states even longer ago. The only problem with it is that I ripped the ID slot a while ago. I was not impressed. Nor am I able to fix it because of the type of tear. MY ID still fits in it and doesn’t fall out, it just bugs me that it’s ripped. The plus with this wallet and bag combo, is that the wallet doesn’t get lost in the pocket. It’s the perfect size. Absolutely perfect.

While I was changing wallets I poured out all my change, and I went to take the pennies, nickles and dimes to put them in my bottles for change. Only one problem. I kept seeing the back of nickles and thought they were quarters. I swear they changed the size of nickles on me, and that’s not cool. Not cool guys, not cool.

In other news, I have half a sock, or about one quarter of a pair.

Kiila (2)Kiila Apparently I rock at doing needle-less cables on the bus. It was insanity. I even managed to fix a wrong cable on the row below the one I was working on. Insanity I say, insanity. The gusset increases by the way, are utter genius. Yarnissima is a genius. The pattern is Kiila (Rav link), and I’m using BFL Sock from Fleece Artist. The combo is great. But yea, I got a whole lot done, and also a fair bit while I watched Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement. For those who didn’t know, Chris Pine (Kirk from the new Star Trek) was in this movie. I didn’t realize until he laughed and I saw his smile. Also in this movie is John Rhys-Davies, Gimli from Lord of the Rings. I swear, I had forgotten about both of them when I got the movie to watch it. I wanted more Julie Andrews, and she sings in this movie. I love Julie Andrews.

And Audrey Hepburn.

And Fred Astaire.

And Dick Van Dyke.

And a whole whack of other classic actors. Nothing is better than the classics.

138. Dear Pillow

May 18

See that? That’s my pillow. We haven’t been on the best speaking terms for the last week or so. It has nearly made me late some days with it’s “But you never see me” whines. It wont let me sleep with it’s “Let’s talk until 3am, I don’t care that you have to get up early".” My pillow has become extremely annoying, and although I think about leaving it, the repercussions would be too numerous to make it worth it. Tonight, I will try to make peace with my pillow. Hopefully I’ll be asleep within a decent amount of time from when my head meets said pillow. A girl can hope, right?

137. Oops Vol. II

May 17

So, on Thursday I bought a big skein of yarn that I shouldn’t have bought. But I am knitting from it right now, so that makes it kind of okay. It’s not just going into the stash. Today I was perusing Ravelry and what did I find, a new sock pattern from Yarnissima. I’m a sucker for her designs. I currently have a pair of Firestarters and a pair of Brainless. I also have half a pair of Brainless done as well, I just haven’t gotten around to doing the second sock. This new sock called Kiila has some really neat gusset increases with the cables going up around and through them. It’s really neat. I’m done a few inches already, I wonder how quickly these will fly off the needles.

I separated the body and the arms for my shrug. I haven’t tried it on yet, but it looks like it’ll fit. I don’t think the Swatch lied that much. Hopefully.

136. So this is Ambition?

May 16

I told you I spent most of today working on that shrug. Well it’s true. I have progress, and a shrug that is too heavy for the needles I’m using, and also getting very close to being too big for them too. My Knitting Note Book has been in about 5 different rooms in this house, and considering that I’ve been wandering around in my yoga pants and an oversized Varsity sweater, it doesn’t look too out of place. Neither does the pencil that just fell out of my pony tail. At least it wasn’t a DPN, eh? The need for circular needles is becoming more real with every increase row, but I’ve got two more increase rows before I separate for the arms/body, so I’ll be okay once I do that.

So far the Eco+ isn’t the softest yarn I’ve ever felt, but if it’s anything like Cascade 220, it’ll soften up with a wash.

Oh Gods. I never checked to see if the Eco+ blooms. I hope my swatch doesn’t lie or hide secrets.

-Cheers folks!

135. Go ahead and Gauge

May 15

I’m designing a shrug. This might be a little ambitious of me, but I am going to do it. Every once in a while I get ideas into my head, I scratch them down on post it notes (because inevitably I’m at work when these ideas pop into my head) I bring them home and nothing happens with them. They sit on my dresser, and then eventually get thrown into the garbage bin. IT doesn’t make me happy to see my “designs” fall to the wayside, but it does feel good to draw them out. This past week I had an idea for a double breasted shrug with button holes on both sides, it’s a little weird with just words, but in my head it works out great. Remember when I bought that Eco+? Well, it wasn’t bought with the sole purpose of being a shrug, in fact I just bought it because I liked it. (When, as knitters, do we really need an excuse to buy yarn other than “I liked it”.) I took it home and felt it. Then I felt it again and again. It was fairly soft, and I really liked the color. I did a little Ravelry searching, and came up with nothing that struck my fancy. So, I put two and two together, got out my little post-it-note and my knitting note book, and designed a little more.

I grabbed my Boobholder, a tape measure, a pencil and an eraser. I measured the garment, measured myself, looked at the Boobholder pattern (Rav link), did a little math (with my mobile because apparently there are no working calculators in this house other than mom’s big accounting calculator which I don’t like) and wrote notes upon notes and a few more notes. I then realized that I needed to swatch, because I had no idea what my gauge would be like on 7mm needles with this yarn. (Insert groans here.) I swatched with said needles, I measured, I did some math with my mobile phone, I got a cast-on number, I cast on. I then realized that to do what I wanted, I didn’t have enough stitches, so I frogged my set up rows, added a couple stitches to my number, and tried again. I got to working on it, it was coming out a little loose for my liking, but my knitter’s brain said “Don’t worry, just keep knitting.” After some talk with my “dense knitted fabric fan” friend, Michael, I realized I didn’t like it. So I frogged. Again.

This time I decided to swatch with different needles. This time I was adamant that I was going to figure out something good. I used 7mm, 6mm and 5mm needles. The 7mm I already knew I didn’t like, but I did it anyways to have something to compare to. I figured that the 5mm would produce too firm of a fabric that I was looking for, and I was right. The 6mm needles, they were perfect! Except they’re 14” plastic straights that are probably older than I am. They’re heavy, and the shrug is getting bigger, which means more pressure on my hands to hold the needles, where as if I were using circulars (both my 7mm and my 5mm are circs) I wouldn’t have the same problem. I’m trucking on though. I’m a Knitter. I can do anything when I set my mind to it.

I just hope that my swatch doesn’t lie.

-Cheers folks!

PS. Sorry for not getting this out yesterday or earlier today, but there was drinking until 2am, and sleeping on a chair that wasn’t in my house until 9am, then sleeping in my house till 1am, then working on the shrug until… now.

134. Oops

May 14

I’m not supposed to buy yarn. I have a sizable stash already. So what did I do today? I bought a skein of Eco+. If you’re not familiar with this yarn, it’s 250 grams of bulky yarn. That’s a lot of yarn. It’s a huge skein. It wont fit in my stash bins. I need to do a destash sooner rather than later. Thing is, I like all my yarn. Well, I like most of it. I guess I know what I’m doing sometime this weekend. Sounds like it’s time for an airing of the stash. Maybe pictures too. Brother will probably be either gone or working, so I’ll have the house to myself. I like my solidarity.

I got my hair cut today. About 4 inches off. I love it. It’s been a while since I had my hair that long, and it was getting heavy and took far too long to dry. I’m happy, we’ll see how it is in the morning after a shower and dry. Pictures tomorrow maybe.

-Cheers folks!

133. Progress

May 13

Where do my evenings go? I swear I get nothing done. Well, I’m sure that in hindsight I do actually get a fair bit done, but I never get as much done as I’d like to. I want to get a big white board and just make lists. I make lists in my sleep (baaaaaaaabyyy). I did that for work today because I had about a billion little things to get done, and I know I would have forgotten things if I hadn’t made my list. It’s oddly comforting to make lists and scratch things off of them. Tomorrow I need to take the bag of garbage out of my room and put it outside in the bin. I should make a list. Although… I probably wont. I need a whiteboard. A BIG one. And I’ll color code my lists. It’ll be awesome.

132. New Belt

May 12

I got a new belt on Friday after about a month of going without one, or with a really bad one if I did need a belt. My old leather and rivets belt pretty much fell apart completely, every time I put it on at least one rivet would pop off, and the leather under the buckle had long fallen apart and was just being held together by the pink vinyl. I like bright belts. Ones that stand out. So I went for this white riveted canvas belt. Hopefully it’ll stand up (and out) better than my old one, though that pink thing did have a long life. I bought it at Penhorn Mall way back when they had the Sunday Market there. That wasn’t yesterday, that’s for darned sure.

Another instance of Battlestar Galactica entering the common vernacular was seen today. I was watching The Hour’s podcast while I was at work (I file all day, I need something, so I work and listen to my ipod or podcasts), and George (my other boyfriend) said Frak. Or Fraking. Some rendition of the non-censored swear word that can be used interchangeably with the other four letter F word, and I’m not talking the Gordon Ramsay show.

131. Morning Prep

May 11

Can you say product much? I don’t use all of this when I get ready in the morning, but I do use a fair bit of it. My morning routine usually goes something like this: Towel dry, Got2be Tipsy (hair silkener, it really does work), plug in straightener, blow dry hair, straighten bangs and fly aways, foundation, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, powder, hair spray (or wax depending on look). That’s about it. If I decide to go curly then it’s the Herbal Essences Totally Twisted, scrunch hair, blow dry upside down,  straighten bangs, make up, hair spray. You can tell I live in a humid and wet climate because of the hair spray. To make things worse my hair naturally wants to turn into a fuzz ball. It really pisses me off sometimes. But what can you do, eh?

130. Mother’s Day

May 10

Nine months of pregnancy. Hours of labour. Many hundreds of sleepless nights. Thousands of bo-bos. Thousands of dirty diapers. More than enough instances of “But mom…”. Sibling rivalry. Tortured pets. Frustrated neighbours. Friends by the hundreds. Birthday Parties, Christmases, Easters, and Gift-giving holidays. First teeth, lost teeth. First steps, first falls. First words, first dirty words. First day of elementary school, last day of High School. Going off to College. Leaving to find work. First “You’ll get over them”. Sports, music, extra curricular activities. Discipline. Teaching. Caring. Loving. A mother’s work never ends.

It’s a wonder how we start out so tiny, so cute, depending on you for everything, including (quite literally) life itself. I don’t think we stop often enough to say thank you. Thank you, Mom.

-Cheers folks! Go hug a mother, they’re amazing.

129. Truly Nova Scotia

May 9

We had a lobster feast today for supper. Considering that they were only $5.77/lbs it was a good deal. 5 lobsters for 5 people. I was very impressed that I got the meat out of the claw without breaking it. That was an achievement that I liked. I’m not a huge fan of lobster, but it’s okay.

How did it get to be almost 11:30? I don’t understand. Seriously. It makes no sense how often I loose hours and sometimes even days. I’m exhausted, I think I’ll call it an early night and sleep in until noon (again).

128. Pick a Shoe, Any Shoe

May 8

We had a party on Friday night. There were a whole lot of people there. This is what the entryway looks like when there are too many people in Casa Del Windsor. It was a great night though. Drinking, food, good friends, what more could you ask for? Pop Tarts being thrown at ceiling fans? Ice cubes down the front of people’s shirts? That night had everything.

127. No More Monsters

May 7

I cleared out my closet, so now the monsters don’t haunt me. All I need to do now is clean out the rest of my room so I have less crap. I feel the need to de-crappify my life. I also feel the need to look after myself better. This crappy weather isn’t doing anything for my energy level though. I come home from work and veg all night. I don’t even knit. I just veg doing nothing. It kind of makes me a little…um…stark raving mad.

The newest episode of Better off Ted contained some lovely geekdom. One of the main characters said “Where is the Fraking Asprin?” That can be added on to Toffer from Dollhouse saying Frak last week too. Battlestar has become common vernacular. Well, common to me at least. Once I hear someone on the news or on a prime time show say Frak, or So say we all, or My Gods, then it shall be common vernacular.

No knitting news. Working on the super secret projects. I’ve got 9 out of 21 done. I’ve got a month… I should be okay to finish them all. Maybe. Hopefully. A girl can dream right?

-Cheers folks!

126. I’m working as fast as I can, Captain

May 6

Just a quickie tonight. Gotta get up earlier than the usual 6am tomorrow because dad’s going to Halifax with mom and I because he has to go to the Dockyards with work, and they’re meeting there at 7:45. Ugh. I hate mornings with a passion.

That’s my alarm clock/radio/CD player. I’ve had it for a while, it does it’s job, but I want one that I can dock my ipod to so it charges and wakes me up to my music or an alarm. Radio just doesn’t do it for me and the spinning of a CD on this gizmo drives me insane.

It is now 11:59 on my clock (it’s 5 minutes fast).

125. Breakfasts of Years Gone By

May 5

Remember yesterday how I said I was a kid at heart? Did I mention that I bought a box of Lucky Charms about a week or so ago? Well I bought Pop Tarts today. Not Toaster Strudels (which I also like) but those pop tarts which you put in the toaster, and then when you take them out you burn your fingers on the “icing” that gets molten hot but never gets soft, and when you bit into them you burn your tongue on the lava that is the “fruit” center. But they’re so good. I like to eat them untoasted as a snack too. Not just for breakfast, which I don’t eat. But even if I do have breakfast it’d never be these. I’d do either a bagel, toast, or a bowl of Cheerios. Or maybe eggs if it were a weekend and I was planning on staying in my jammies for a while. I can’t wait to bring a box into work and put it next to my container of what’s left of my Lucky Charms. I say what’s left of them because my brother at about 80% of them when I wasn’t looking. He has promised me a box to replace them though, so that’s good. We’ll see if he actually follows through. He did give me cookies on the weekend though. Mark your calendars people! My (25) year old brother and I were civil to each other! It’s miraculous. It’s also miraculous that I spelt that right. Go me.

124. Kid at Heart

May 4

We had an outdoor meeting with the Brownies tonight, playing soccer on the field and then going over to the playground at one of the local elementary schools. Myself and the Ranger (young leader) were begged by the kids to show them what we could do. While all the girls went easily along the monkey bars, we were apparently too bottom heavy. Neither of us got more than 3 or 4 bars in before we fell off. Not like it was far for us though. I was able to go along the rings by grabbing the tops of the bars not the rings themselves. I don’t know why, must be completely different muscle groups. I had forgotten how much fun it was to just run around a playground, I also had forgotten just how much I miss soccer. Damned injury keeping me down.

123. Dartmouth Lakes Area Leader’s Dinner

May 3

Tonight was the Dinner for all the leaders (and Rangers) in the area that I’m a Leader with girl Guides. It was fun, and we were out before 9pm. That was amazing.

Our district is one of the smallest in the Area, but we tend to have the largest turnout to any Area event, either when it comes to taking girls places (like the Dal Women’s Volleyball game in the winter), or leader only events (like conference or the Area Dinner.) We have about 80 girls total, and (I think) about 20 leaders. We had 18 there tonight out of a total leader turnout of about 70 (I think). It’s great to see so many of us who are so young, and we all get along. It’s great to enjoy working with those who you volunteer so much of our time with.

Now allow me to tell you all the tale of the leaders dinner that was lots of fun. I just wish that you could write the descriptions of the pictures on the white space at the bottom of the templates. I think that would be cool. These are some of the leaders that I work with, one of them is even a picture of my mom getting a Silver Merit award! Go Mom! I must admit that my District cleaned up with all the awards. We Rock. That’s all that can explain it.

122. It’s a Fedora, dear Dora

May 2

I want to meet someone named Dora who doesn’t know what a Fedora is so that I can say “It’s a Fedora, dear Dora.” Kind of like The Doctor (from Doctor Who) wanted to meet someone named Alonso so that he could say “Alons-y, Alonso.” I’m weird like that I know.

Me and the guys (and Russian’s miss) went to see the new X-Men movie tonight. It was so good. As someone who has very, very limited knowledge about the background of X-Men I followed it all, and did my little girly fan-girl squee at the end when Patrick Stewart showed up. Kind of like what I did earlier today as I watched the latest episode of Dollhouse. Joss Wheadon is amazing. Simply amazing.

121. Pool Night

May 1

We had a pool/Wii night at one of the guy’s houses last night. I didn’t get in until well after 2am that’s why there was not post yesterday. One of the many great features of Live Writer is that you can set the publish date to whenever you want, hence why this actually looks like I posted it yesterday. In any case, it was a fun night. Not much drinking going on at all, actually, I was the only person to drink anything and all I had was one drink. I don’t know whether they were making fun of me for not having a reaction to the one drink anymore, or if they were making fun of my past where I was such a lightweight that one drink would put me under the table.

There were some pretty great moments last night.

Pool Night 008 One of the guys made a shot that landed the other’s last ball alongside the 8 ball and both were right on the edge of the pocket.

Pool Night 015 There was a rolly chair, so what do you do? Play rolly chair pool where you can’t get up from the chair, but you are allowed to use the Bitch Stick.

Pool Night 031 A couple people got in on the Rolly Chair Pool. In both cases, the Rolly Chair player won.

Pool Night 057No trickery here. He actually did make a bounce shot which I got a picture of. I do believe that the ball ended up on the floor though, so… scratch.

Pool Night 058What would the night be without some fancy shots to try and show each other up. Except with this one there was no scratch, only balls in pockets.

All in all, a great night. We then played Wii (Tanks and Mario Cart) until about 1:30. Certain people let the team down, but that’s okay, we’ll only shun them for a little while.
